SCMR Group

Summary

The principal purpose of my group is to study confined multi-phase systems, such as polymer solutions, liquid crystals and suspensions, far from equilibrium. In particular, we seek to analyze how dissipative fields, e.g. flow and/or electric fields, can be used to drive or manipulate the self-assembly of confined complex fluids. The opportunity resides in the fact that a comprehensive analysis of these problems requires the combination of fluid mechanics, transport and rheology with statistical mechanics, molecular modeling, polymer and complex-fluid physics.

In order to be able to simulate these systems novel techniques must be developed and combined, it is therefore an interest of my group to developed advanced techniques to include all the important interactions for complex multi-phase non-equilibrium systems.

Consulting and extension is also an important part of our group. The most significant consulting jobs include polymer processing, advanced materials and energy and environmental management.
